Top Travel Songs – An Audio-Visual Journey

With the help of online video, let me take you on an audio-visual journey of my top travel tunes.

STEPPENWOLF – Born To Be Wild

Love ‘Easy Rider’, can’t leave this classic off the list!

LITTLE RIVER BAND – It’s A Long Way There
I’ve been listening to this song a bit of late, and I’m finding it’s words relevant to my current trip.

ROLLINS BAND – Illumination
Great Lyrics and amazing film clip.

RORY MCLEOD – Sleep Tonight
In the tradition of the Celtic Bards, this one goes out to the rough traveling backpackers 🙂

METALLICA – Wherever I May Roam
Great lyrics, I reckon this song would work really well with an acoustic version, anyone game?

THE BLACKEYED SUSANS – The Good Life Never Ends
The coolest travel song you never heard of, full of a good dose of Australian irony. Lyrics by the great David McComb of Triffids fame.

ASH GRUNWALD – Breakout

The song to get you on the road and outta your current situation 🙂

JOHN J FRANCIS – Simple Ben
From the amazing surf film ‘Morning of the Earth’. A beautiful song about appreciating the little things.

HANK WILLIAMS SNR – Ramblin’ Man
The greatest example of travel songwriting ever! If you need to know the influence this country singer had on popular music, listen to these great lyrics! This version features my mate Matt Charles leading the vocals.

LED ZEPPELIN – Ramble On
Ten years searching for your girl, wow, hardcore! Obviously big LOTR fans 🙂

IGGY POP – The Passenger
Got to feature the legendary Iggy, and what a great homemade video clip, featuring some classic old movies

NICK CAVE – When I first came to Town
When it is time to move on!

And as an encore, a traditional song I changed to suit my own travels –
TOMMY TANNER AND THE DRUNKEN PEREGIAN BEACH CHOIR – Version of The Overlanders Traditional Tune
