World Travel, Online Video, Digital Nomadism, Tourism Marketing

With the new year fast approaching I have narrowed down the four things, the four pillars, that overlander.tv will concentrate on in the year to come.

World Travel – I’ve been on the road for five months now and I suppose one thing I have realised is that I can’t do everything and neither do I really want to.
With long term travel, there has to be some time to ‘stop and smell the roses’. Doing things at a frenetic pace may mean missing the nuances of place.
I have time, I want to enjoy it, just see where the wind blows, not run around like a blue ass fly, ticking items off a list.
So I’m currently narrowing down the things I am passionate about seeing, doing, experiencing. Because if I’m enjoying the experience, you’re enjoying my videos. Passion is contagious.

Online Video – Despite the recent hiccup with youtube algorithm changes halving my adsense income, I still believe in online video.
Why? Because it provides measurable statistics which allow producers to know exactly what works and is the best way to reach a global audience.
After all these years, I still sometimes get a buzz out of being creative and still enjoy exploring different styles and formats. I still haven’t found a structure that best fits ‘on the road’ editing and don’t know if I really want to be pigeonholed into providing one format in my own travel adventures. I want to keep evolving and changing and enjoying experimentation with form and style.

Digital Nomadism – I am exploring world travel as a lifestyle choice. I am learning the pros and cons of this way of life and have already experienced one major difficulty of solo travel; the fleeting friendships and longing for deeper relationships.
The longer I travel the more adept I hope to become in dealing with life on the road. I hope to document some of these experiences in video.

Tourism Marketing – I have no one funding this trip and one of my chief aims is to explore ways to make money on the road. I wish to use my skills and knowledge of online video marketing to help tourism bodies promote their regions in ways that people respond to, that is, with complete honesty, showing the good and the bad. It takes brave operators to accept this power shift to the consumer.
Part of this push is the formation of a new website Two Minute Profile whereby I will provide business and video producers a tried and tested profile video structure that can be used globally.

The best way to do an online video business profile – the 2minprofile method

December 1, 2011 in 2minprofile, About, business profiles, online video

A new way to produce online business profile videos, using a tried and tested method – 2minprofile.com

I’ve had great success producing business profile videos for business. Most of the videos I have produced have gone to number one in google search for keywords related to the business featured. Just as important, I believe I have cracked the code with regard to what works online.

A video cannot be too long. I believe 2 minutes is all that is needed. In this two minutes I believe all a business needs to do is differentiate itself from it’s competitors 4 times. That works out to be roughly 30 secs per point. For the video producer, each 30 secs works out to be 6-12 shots, depending on the pace of the video piece.

So essentially a formula can be developed, that allows both video producer and business owner, to know exactly how the end product will look. Here is an example of a business profile video that uses my formula, it is short (approx 2 mins) it is personable (you get to know the owners) and very succinctly, it sums up how the business is different from it’s competitors.

So I have set up 2MINPROFILE which will empower business all over the world to use local video producers to produce online friendly video profiles.

At the moment we are just in beta phase, gathering a list of video producers from around the world interested in being involved in this unique project, and helping them learn the 2minprofile method with a series of free online video tutorials. For the first time, video producers name their price with regard to the going rates in their country and sales are made via one website – 2minprofile.com.

Video has been proven to be the best online marketing tool and we offer business a tried and tested formula to use with regard to their online video marketing.

At the moment we are reaching out to video producers from around the world who wish to be involved in this unique project. Any video producers interested in being involved please send us an email with 2minprofile in the subject.

Online Travel Video Production and Advertising Opportunity in Australia

August 4, 2008 in Advertise

Youtube is the 500 pound Gorilla of online video. So it makes sense that it is also the place to put videos about your tourism business or region. As youtube is owned by google, there is the added bonus that youtube videos rank very highly in google search.

My time on youtube has taught me some valuable lessons with regard to what people like. By monitoring each video’s ratings, comments, views and the amount of times it has been added to a viewers favorites, I can assess exactly what format and type of story, within the ‘Meet a Local’ concept works. Youtube insight also provides viewer demographics such as sex, age, location.

I believe online video is now the new free to air tv, and that opportunities exist for business like never before. If you place an ad on television, it may well be viewed by 100,000 people, but of that 100,000, how many are actually interested in your product, 5%, 10%? With a niche youtube channel like mine, which features travel videos, I can be fairly certain, everyone who CHOOSES to watch or subscribe to my videos are interested in travel, and my videos are viewed globally.

So an exciting opportunity exists for a travel related company to promote their business or region with online video. This could include getting other local tourism operators to become involved and share the cost.

Teaming up with Overlander.tv allows you to promote your business or region, on an already established, successful highly visible travel video channel which has spent the last year, adapting it’s programming to suit the online 3-5 minute format. This means your video will automatically place well in google search due to number of views and rankings.
